FAQs
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for you to share what’s brought you to counselling, ask any questions
and see how it feels to talk with me. There’s no pressure; you’re in control of what you share and
when.
How long are the sessions and how much do they cost?
Sessions last for 1 hour and cost £55. I also offer a free initial 15-minute chat with no expectations. It’s a chance for you to ask questions and decide whether you would like to work with me, and for me to make sure I'm the right counsellor to support you. Please get in touch and we can arrange a time to chat that suits us both.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people come for a few sessions to work through something specific; others prefer to come for longer. Some people attend for a while, take a break then return some time later. We can review as we go along and decide together what feels right for you.
What if I’m not sure what’s wrong?
You don’t need to have a clear reason for coming. Many people start counselling with a general
feeling that something doesn't feel OK for them. We can explore things together at your own pace.
Is everything confidential?
Yes, everything you say in our sessions stays private. There are a few possible exceptions to this, but I’ll explain all of this clearly when we start working together.
Do you offer online or phone sessions?
Yes, I offer remote counselling by phone or video call, as well as face-to-face sessions in Market
Weighton and Hull. You can choose what suits you best.
What if I need to cancel a session?
Life happens and sometimes you may need to reschedule. I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may still be charged.
Is your space accessible?
Yes. Both the Market Weighton and Hull locations have ground floor access, toilets and free on-site
parking. If you have any particular access needs, just let me know and I’ll do my best to
accommodate them.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for a session?
Not at all. Just come as you are. You don’t need to have the right words or a list of things to talk
about. Whatever you’re feeling that day is enough.
Will you give me advice or tell me what to do?
Not exactly. My role isn’t to give advice or make decisions for you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll just sit and listen. I’ll work with you to help you understand your thoughts, feelings and options more clearly. Together, we’ll explore what matters most to you and I'll support you to make choices that feel right for your life. Many clients find that with the right space and support, they begin to feel more confident in trusting their own decisions.
What if I don’t ‘click’ with you?
The relationship between counsellor and client is really important. If you don’t feel I’m the right fit,
that’s completely fine. There’s no pressure and I’ll always support you in finding the help that works
for you.
